Latvian Mittens!

So here is my first mitten from the Latvian Mitten Book.

It's amazing how much knitting I can get done in four hours of classes; though I do make more mistakes in knitting when I do it in class.

I started the color work Monday and really enjoy it as the completion of each row seems like a palpable accomplishment.

Final Faerie Hat

I started this last night after dinner and finished it a few minutes ago. It's made out of a ball and 1/4 of Louisa Harding Kashmir Aran (55 merino/35 microfiber/ 10 cashmere) and will be gifted to Munkee at the Spirit Gathering Next week. 92 stitches on size 6 using the Half dome in the Round pattern off Yarn Boy's site. Now back to the sock.

Tomatoes under glass , Eli, and the ubiquitous feather and fan

So in an effort to keep my little tomatoes alive I have placed them all under glass. Fortunately Mason Jars are cheap and I'll need them for canning the plethora of tomatoes that will result from a dozen plants.

I have been working on a little feather and fan scarf which may end up as an icon cloth.

And here is a picture of Eli because you can never have too many. He's lounging in the chair he sleeps on.

Hemp Hat

I've been all about the Hempathy lately(its hemp, cotton, and modal; what is modal?). This hat is 120 stitches on 3's around and is K2 P2 with a cable on the rib every 4th row. I used the needleless cabling method that I saw in passing regarding the "Shifting Sand Scarf" that Brooklyn Tweed did a few months back and thought this was a good opportunity to learn it.

I made it for Flopper to wear while biking because his hair is just the right thickness for bugs to get caught in it instead of glancing off. This hat is an attempt avoid this fate.

The reductions started as one every needle every three rows and then carried for about 4 inches. I then switched to a reduction every two rows finishing off with one every row. I don't really like the top but the hat was getting too long. As it stands it looks cute on Flopper and hopefully will not be too warm.

I have three hats lined up and am looking forward to them.

Behold the mittens!

So Flopper's hands can now be warm.

Here is the first sock in creamsicle Malabrigo for his mom. Done today in politics.

And here is a hat I tossed together out of some leftover cashmere and a lovely 10 percent cashmere/40 modal/ 50 merino crocheted yarn I've been all about lately for dear RedWing.

Hugs,

So I have been making Flopper some lovely mittens out of Misti Alpaca on #3s in Fair Isle Style.
Eli Likes Mittens.

Oh and I got this distressigly cute tape measure from lantern moon that is shaped like a sheep. Above it is the beginings of a moebius scarf. ~Eikon

Woodcutters and on the Needles and out of Work

So we went to Woodcutters ever so briefly with Elias who seemed to really enjoy kawashaway. We had lovely conversation with Kiva and to a little walk along the temperance where we promptly lost our gentle leader dog leash. I decided to come home with Flopper rather than have him drive the 2 hours to Duluth to get me on Monday and because I had work on Monday. Getting home and checking my messages I found that I no longer have work on Moday as they have decided to let me go. I kept forgetting (twice) to initial for eyedrops and foot cream and apparantly company policy is strict about these things. So back to the job hunt. It seems I have a comission for a hat and Flopper's sister in law Terri has informed me e of a craft show that she holds and suggested I might do eggs. I could probably put together a few dozen ormnament quality eggs before then but haven't decided whether it would be cost effective. 40 hours of labour with 30 percent of the take being given to the house and maybe 50 dollars of supplies. I could make maybe 300 . Oh well it is something to ponder. I am currently working on a baby blamket, a scarf, and two pairs of socks.
